A couple of months after its launch in China, Samsung today expanded Samsung Pay to Spain, making it the first European country where the service is available. So far, Samsung Pay has been launched in South Korea, United States, and China.
Samsung Pay is the first of its kind payment service to launch in Spain, which should pique consumer interest.
“Our goal with Samsung Pay is to drive and lead innovation in mobile commerce, giving consumers a safer, smarter and better mobile wallet,” said Victor Kim, Global Director, Samsung Pay. “Samsung operates an open model of partnership and collaboration to deliver the best possible customer experience. With Samsung Pay, we’re confident that we’re providing Spanish customers with the mobile payments service that they’re looking for.”
For now, Samsung Pay in Spain will be supported by CaixaBank and ImaginBank, with support from Abanca and Banco Sabadell coming soon. The payment service is compatible with retail stores that have contactless terminals like Domino’s Pizza, Cespa, Mercadona, Phone House, Rodilla, Starbucks, and more.
In Spain, Samsung Pay will be supported on the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6m Galaxy S6 edge, and Galaxy S6 edge+, though the final availability depends on the operator. Samsung will also add Samsung Pay support to the Galaxy A5 (2016) through a software update in the future.
