BlackBerry Priv users on the AT&T network would traditionally require an AT&T SIM card placed in the device to receive software updates. Nonetheless, since the carrier sold unlocked versions of the phone, some users have missed on these updates as they used a competing carrier’s SIM card. There is good news however, as BlackBerry is working on a fix for the same.
A recent post on the BlackBerry Knowledge Base says that the company is working to bring important security updates as well as the Android 6.0 update to those who are using the unlocked GSM device on non-AT&T SIM cards. So, T-Mobile users in USA who are using the Priv should be able to update their device soon (there is no targeted date released yet).
BlackBerry has been heavily dedicated to the Priv, with updates being rolled-out really rapidly to the users, sadly though, those on AT&T have been missing out on these updates, but with this news, that shouldn’t be the case for much longer.
The Priv was launched in Q4 of last year and currently retails from AT&T or the BlackBerry website (for non-US customers) and is available for $649. AT&T, however, has the phone on a permanent $50 discount since April.
