Google today announced the winners of its first ever Google Play Awards at I/O 2016. The winning apps come from a variety of different categories and have been crowned the winner for their beautiful design, innovation, and for following the Material Design guidelines.
The company had announced the nominees for the Google Play Award earlier this year. You can find the complete list of nominated apps here, while the list of winners across the various categories have been mentioned below:
- Best App: Houzz
- Best Early Adopter: World Around Me
- Best Families App: Thinkrolls 2
- Best Go Global: Pokemon Shuffle Mobile
- Best Game: Clash Royale
- Most Innovative: NYT VR
- Best Use of Material Design: Robinhood
- Best Standout Indie: Alphabear
- Best Use of Google Play Game Services: Table Tennis Touch
- Best Standout Startup: Hopper
The hugely popular Clash Royale winning the ”Best Game” award should not be surprising to many, though Houzz pipping the likes of BuzzFeed News and TuneIn Radio to win the ”Best App” award sure is.
The above winners were selected by a panelists of Googlers who voted for the apps based on several criteria, including the overall quality of the app and the innovation they bring to the table.
Do you use any of the winning apps mentioned above? If yes, do you think they deserve the award?
