At the opening Google I/O keynote, Google previewed Google Home, its own Amazon Echo competitor. Google Home is a Wi-Fi speaker for which Google will also be offering customisation options. The company says that it has designed Google Home to fit in any part of one’s home.
The device supports Google Cast and is capable of streaming high quality music right from the cloud, instead of streaming it from your device over Bluetooth. The speaker can also connect with other Google Home speakers in your home for multi-speaker support. The Wi-Fi speaker will be running Google Assistant, the new smarter and more contextual digital assistant from the company.
In the demo video shown by video, Google Home was used to check up on schedule, the traffic to office, checking up on whether the package has shipped or not, and even using it to directly cast something to the living room TV. Google Home will be launching later this year, but Google is already inviting third-party developers to come onboard and work with it.
