A new report claims that pre-order of Samsung’s latest flagship handsets, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, have been underwhelming in the company’s own home market: South Korea.

Samsung started accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge from March 4 in South Korea from all the three major carriers in the country. Like with every other market, the company is bundling a free Gear VR headset with the handset for customers who pre-order the device. However, as per sources of Business Korea, the pre-order number of Samsung’s flagship handsets for 2016 have been lower than their predecessors.

The publication claims that there are quite a number of reasons for it, including the fact that consumers no longer prefer the pre-order system. This is because in North Korea, the final price of the handset is not revealed while the handset is available for pre-order. Plus, any operator subsidies are also not revealed during this time. Due to this, many customers prefer to wait for the handset to actually launch, so that all the offers and pricing are revealed before they can take the final decision.

The report also claims that the Gear VR as a pre-order gift from Samsung is not enough to entice customers to buy the handset.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will go on sale in South Korea from March 11. Whether the sales of the S7 and S7 edge are better than its predecessors or not can only be confirmed a few months down the line.
