Amidst the unveiling of Galaxy S7 and LG G5 next week, Xiaomi is also all set to launch its flagship phone for 2016: the Mi 5. Details about the handset have been surfacing on the internet once in a while, but most rumors surrounding the phone has been ambiguous and unreliable to say the least.
Today though, the folks over at GizChina have managed to get their hands on some slides from the Mi 5 presentation, which reveals the full specifications of the handset. The slides suggest that the Mi 5 will come with a 5.2-inch Full HD display with minimal bezels surrounding it. There will also be a physical home button below it that will incorporate the fingerprint scanner.
Under the hood, the handset will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset, and will be available in two RAM/storage variants: 3GB with 32GB storage; and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage.
In addition to the above, the Mi 5 will also feature a microSD card slot, an IR blaster, NFC, dual-SIM connectivity and with a single SKU, the handset will support all major Chinese networks including that of China Mobile.
As for the camera, the rear will feature a 26MP sensor with an F/1.6 aperture, which sounds unlikely high to me. It will also feature phase detection autofocus for autofocus times of around 0.05 seconds. Lastly, the handset will feature a USB Type-C port with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
Xiaomi is scheduled to unveil the Mi 5 in China on February 24th, and one of the leaked slides suggest that the handset will go on sale just two days later i.e. on February 26th.
While the above specs sound pretty spot on, the 26MP camera with an F/1.6 aperture sounds too good to be true to me. What do you think?
