LG G5 official announcement tease

LG is taking its always-on screen implementation from the V10 to the next level with the LG G5. As per Android Authority, the LG G5 is going to come with an Always On display — literally.

And unlike the V10, we are not talking about some secondary display here. Instead, it is the primary display which will always remain on.

As the GIF above shows, the Always On display on the G5 will be used to show time and any unread notifications.

An Always On display does bring up concern about the battery life of the handset, so it will be interesting to see how LG has optimised this feature to make sure the impact on battery life is negligible.

It is also possible that LG’s implementation is similar to Motorola’s Moto Display, in which the display wakes up automatically every time you look at it or move the phone to display new notifications.

Samsung is also rumored to launch the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge with a similar Always On display. However, since Samsung uses AMOLED displays on its devices, the impact on battery life is going to be very minimal with an Always On display.

LG is scheduled to unveil the G5 at the Mobile World Congress later this month.
