Rumors about Xiaomi launching the Mi 5 have been surfacing on the wide world of internet as far back as mid-2015. Despite repeated leaked renders, it has still remained unclear until today as to when Xiaomi plans on launching the Mi 5.
Thanks to one of company’s co-founder — Liwan Jiang — though, now we know that Xiaomi plans on launching the Mi 5 just after the Chinese New Year, which falls on February 8 this year. The co-founder also revealed that the Mi 5 will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset, and it has already entered mass production.
Early previews of the Snapdragon 820 chipset have been largely positive, with the chipset not suffering from any kind of overheating issues that plagued the Snapdragon 810 chipset. The launch timeframe will also make the Mi 5 among the very first smartphones to launch that will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Leaks have indicated that the Mi 5 will feature a fingerprint scanner and 4GB RAM. Other specs of the handset remain unknown for now, though with its launch less than a month away, it should not take long for the full specs of the Mi 5 to leak.
