At an event in New Delhi, India, Yu — a subsidiary of Micromax — launched its first flagship handset: the Yu Yutopia. The company has gone all out with the handset, which features an aircraft grade aluminium body.

Staying true to Yu’s design language, the Yutopia features the company’s Saturn Rings 3 design at the rear.

On the front, the Yutopia features a 5.2-inch LCD display from Sharp with a Quad HD resolution and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Yu also boasts that the display has a 178-degree viewing angle, 91 percent color gamut and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass.

Under the hood, the Yu Yutopia features a Snapdragon 810 chipset clocked at 2GHz, an Adreno 430 GPU, 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of storage space. It also features a microSD card slot, a touch-based fingerprint scanner at its rear with wake functionality and a boot load of sensors likes gyroscope, compass, barometer and more. Other notable specs of the handset include DTS  that optimises the sound coming out from the speaker, Tri-Mic technology for high quality stereo voice recording with active noise cancellation, and a Smart PA amp.

As for the cameras, the rear of the Yutopia features a 21MP shooter with OIS that uses Sony’s IMX230 sensor. It features a 77.3-degree wide angle lens and is capable of recording videos in 4K and slow-mo at 120 FPS. On the front, the handset houses an 8MP sensor with an 1.4um pixel size and F/2.2 aperture with a 86-degree wide angle lens. The rear fingerprint scanner can also be tapped once to automatically take a selfie.

All this is powered by a 3,000mAh battery that also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 that allows it to be charged to up to 60 percent in only around 30 minutes. Like other Yu devices, the Yutopia runs on Cyanogen OS 12.1, which is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The OS comes with a number of customisation options like a theme manager, quick settings customisation, and more.

Like other devices from Yu, the Yutopia will be sold exclusively through Amazon India. The handset has been priced at Rs. 24,999 with its pre-bookings starting from today and sales starting from December 26.
