Huawei has managed to do a remarkable job in the stagnating smartphone market where the competition among OEMs is getting fierce with every passing month. The company managed to best the likes of Lenovo and LG to grab the number 3 smartphone maker spot — in terms of volume — in Q3 of this year, and is on track to sell more than 100 million smartphones by the end of this year.
Now, in a way to improve the UI of its smartphone offerings, the Chinese company has hired former creative director of Apple, Abigail Sarah Brody. The executive was a part of the team that helped in designing the various UI aspects of the first iOS and a bunch of other Mac apps. However, she left the company in January 2011 after working for more than 9 years, and went on to join eBay and PayPal as the VP of Global Design.
At Huawei, Abigail is the Chief UX Designer and Vice President of the company’s software suite. She joined the company in September, so it is likely that her influence will start showing in Huawei’s next product cycle. Here is hoping that Abigail gets Huawei to tone down its Emotion UI and make it cohesive and easier to use.
