On October 15, Google brought live streaming capabilities to Android devices by way of its YouTube Gaming platform. For those that just want to record their gameplay, Google has another option.
On October 28, Google officially announced that it is bringing game recording capabilities to Google Play Games in general. With Play Games, the central hub for gaming on the Android platform, users will be able to record their games, and provide commentary, without having to be part of YouTube Gaming.
The process is simple enough. Just open up the Play Games app on your Android device, select the game you want to play, and then you’ll see an option to record gameplay. The recording will be available in either 720p or 480p, and you’ll be able to choose whether or not to use the front-facing camera to record commentary as you play. Once you’re done recording, the app will save the video and upload it to YouTube.
It’s a quick way to get a Let’s Play up, that’s for sure.
The update will be available to Android users in the United States and the United Kingdom over the next few days, if it’s not available already.
