A couple of months after releasing the first OnHub router, Google is back with the Asus OnHub. The Asus-made OnHub router is similar to the original TP-Link OnHub router, except that its design tapers towards the top.
The Asus OnHub router features the same multi-dimensional antenna setup as the original TP-Link-made OnHub, though it does not feature an antenna reflector found on the latter. It does, however, come with Wave Control that allows you to boost the Wi-Fi speed/bandwidth to a particular device by simply waving your hand on top of the router.
In addition to the Asus’ OnHub router, Google also announced the first software update for the original TP-Link OnHub. The update does not bring any major changes though, and Google only says that it brings “several performance improvements, including a new smart antenna algorithm.” This new algorithm will automatically select the best combination of antennas for a device depending on its location and orientation.
The Asus-made OnHub router is available for pre-order in the United States for $219.99.
