Shooting down rumors of the team being “dead”, a Paranoid Android member took to Google+ to clarify that while the team is no longer active, it is not dead either.

Valter Strods, a member of the Paranoid Android team, says that there is a small group within the team that still wants to bring back the good old days of the custom ROM and are looking into it. He says that the PA team needs developers and servers to get back in action, but their recruiting attempts have failed so far.

There is no official statement because we are not 100% sure what we should be considered. There is a small group of us who still want to bring it back and who are looking into how to do it. We need servers. We need developers. We are lacking in everything and there has been a media silence since we actually don’t know about how to sort everything out. Recruiting attempts don’t really seem to bring in the manpower we would need and just asking for servers won’t give us much anyway if we don’t have enough people who can spend time, so right now we are just staying silent.

In the end, Strolds says that if the Paranoid Android team decides to call it quits from making custom ROMs, they will make a formal announcement about it.

Majority of the members of the Paranoid Android team were hired by OnePlus to work on OxygenOS, which is why there has been a lack of updates from the team. The PA team has lost most of its mojo from the KitKat days with its core developers leaving the team, and I don’t really expect the team to get its act together again anytime soon and start cranking out some unique new features.
