The CyanogenMod team today announced that it will start rolling out the first stable release of CM12.1 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop from today. Additionally, the team is also rolling out an update for the stable build of CM11 and CM12 with various security patches thrown in, including one for Stagefright.

The stable release of CM12.1 will not be available for all the devices that are supported by the team though. Instead, only those releases that are being marked as ‘known good’ by device maintainers will be released to the public.

CyanogenMod 12.1 packs in quite a lot of new features, including Live Display, DPI changer, and more. You can find a walkthrough of all the features present in the ROM here.

The CM team also notes that this releases adds support for IMAP idle and support for the first version of their own SDK.

If you are running CM11 or CM12 on your Android device, you can install the first stable release of CM12.1 on it without doing a wipe, but make sure to flash a compatible Google Apps package as well. However, if you are using Xposed framework, a custom kernel or have made any major modifications to the ROM, it is recommended that you wipe the device and then do a fresh install.

If there is no CM12.1 release for your device, you should still update to the latest CM11/12 release as it contains patches for many serious security vulnerabilities. The builds will go up for download through CyanogenMod’s download page throughout today and tomorrow.
