Google today announced its first router, the OnHub, that is meant to cater to the high streaming and sharing needs of today’s consumers.

The sleek looking circular router features not only Wi-Fi a/b/n/ac (2.4 and 5GHz) with speeds of up to 1900Mbps, but also supports next generation technologies like Bluetooth Smart Ready, Weave, and 802.15.4, which makes it future proof and ready for “smart devices” down the line.

The router comes with a whopping 13 antennas (6 x 2.4GHz and 6 x 5GHz) that are arranged internally in a unique circular pattern to maximise coverage and speed.

Additionally, OnHub features a dual core 1.4GHz processor, 4GB of onboard storage space, 1GB DDR3 L RAM, a single USB 3.0 port, LAN and WAN ports, a 3W speaker, six tri-color LED lights, and an ambient light sensor.

Google states that OnHub’s software features “advanced and always-evolving security features” and it is also capable of auto updating itself without interrupting your Internet connection. Google will also be releasing a ‘Google On’ app on the Play Store that will make it possible to run a network check, see the various devices connected to OnHub, or even control the router remotely from your Android smartphone.

Google’s OnHub can be pre-ordered for $199 from the Google Store, Amazon, Walmart, TP-Link or Frys.com. The company did not provide a concrete release date for the device, except for starting that it will “ship in the coming weeks.” Amazon, however, says that the device will ship on August 31.
