At an event in Vizag, India today, Xiaomi unveiled its first ‘Make In India’ smartphone: the Redmi 2 Prime.
The handset is similar to the Redmi 2, but comes with more RAM and storage space. Otherwise, the handset has the same design and packs the same specs as the Redmi 2, which includes a 4.7-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 410 chipset, an 8MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP front camera.
On the software front, the Redmi 2 Prime runs on MIUI v6. The handset will be available in India for Rs. 6,999 through Amazon, Flipkart, and Mi.com.
In addition to the Redmi 2 Prime, Xiaomi also announced that it will be setting up an assembly unit in Andhra Pradesh with Foxconn under the ‘Make In India’ initiative.
