A report from the Korean media claims that Samsung will start another round of beta testing of its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, from the end of this week.
Additionally, BC Card will also run a beta testing program with its cardholders from Monday (i.e. today) until August 20th to receive feedback on how the service works and to make sure that things work smoothly once it is officially launched to the public later this year.
The report quotes one of the beta testers who was a part of the first trial that occurred last month and spoke highly of the service and praised Samsung for it.
Giving kudos to the mobile payment system, one of the participants of the beta tests said, “Samsung seems to have finally made it. The mobile payment system will bring a whole new experience to users.”
Another industry official told Korea Herald that Samsung Pay is “fitted with layers of security measures such as fingerprint scanning and a passcode” and is expected to become “one of the safest payment measures” in the market.
A Samsung Card official also said “the company will try to offer both convenient and secure payment services and lead the mobile payment market.”
Samsung has already confirmed that it will be launching Samsung Pay in the United States and South Korea later this year. Unlike Apple Pay, Samsung’s mobile payment service works with Point of Sale terminals that feature either MST or NFC. The presence of former means that retailers will be able to support Samsung Pay without having to upgrade their payment terminals. It was only last week that Samsung extended its partnership with MasterCard to bring Samsung Pay to Europe.
As of now, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are the only devices from Samsung that feature support for Samsung Pay. It is likely that the company’s upcoming devices — the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge Plus — will also support the payment service.
