Sony today unveiled a new Xperia handset, the Xperia M5, with a new rear camera sensor that features a 21.5MP resolution with Hybrid AF technology for quick auto focus times.  

From the outside, the Xperia M5 looks like a typical Xperia device and follows Sony’s renowned OmniBalance design. This means that the handset inherits the waterproof and dust tight IP65/IP68 rating from its bigger siblings, and taking a cue out of the Xperia Z3+, the Xperia M5 does not feature any kind of flap on its microUSB port as well.

As for the specs, the Xperia M5 is powered by MediaTek’s 64-bit octa-core Helio X10 processor clocked at 2GHz, a PowerVR G6200 GPU, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage space, and a microSD card slot.

On the camera front, the phone houses a 13MP shooter in the front that is also capable of recording Full HD videos. The rear comes with a 21.5MP sensor with an F/2.2 aperture and a Hybrid AF technology for auto focus times of less than 0.3 seconds. It is also capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. There is also a dedicated shutter button on the handset to let you quickly and easily take pictures.

Other notable specs of the handset include NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and LTE connectivity. The 2600mAh sealed battery inside the Xperia M5 ensures that the handset is able to last for up to 2 days on a single charge.

Sony will be offering the Xperia M5 in gold, black, and white colors, though the exact release date and price of the handset remain unknown for now.
