Nearly all the major OEMs have jumped on the Quick Charging bandwagon, which should not really come as a surprise since the feature is extremely useful. After all, which smartphone user would not love their phone to go from 0 to 50% with only 30 to 40 minutes of charging?
Sony, however, has been slow in adopting this technology and its only their recently unveiled Xperia Z3+/Xperia Z4 that features support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0. As is turns out though, many other Xperia devices from Sony support this technology as well. The full list from Sony is below:
- Xperia Z3+/Z4 (only single SIM variant)
Xperia Z4 Tablet - Xperia Z3 (only Japanese variants SO-01G, SOL26 and 401SO)
Xperia Z3 Compact
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact - Xperia Z2 (only Japanese variant SO-03F)
Xperia Z2 Tablet
Owners of Xperia Z3 and Z2 will be pretty bummed out after going through the above list, since only the Japanese variants of their handset supports Quick Charge 2.0, while even the international variant of their ‘Compact’ siblings, which have exactly the same internals as their bigger brethren, support quick charging.
Sony states that charging any of the above handset for 10 minutes through any Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 charger will be enough to allow for an additional 5.5 hours of usage.
Keep in mind that Sony does not ship a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 compatible charger with any of its devices above, so you will have to get your hands on one yourself to charge your Xperia faster.
