Huawei today announced its new handset for the U.S. market — the P8 Lite. As the name suggests, the P8 Lite is a ‘lite’ version of the company’s flagship handset — the P8 — which was unveiled in April.

While the P8 Lite looks similar to the P8, it comes with a plastic body to achieve it lower price tag. Huawei has also toned down the specs of the handset, which now includes a 5-inch 720p display, an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM, dual SIM connectivity, 16GB of storage space and a microSD card slot. There is also a 13MP rear shooter that is capable of recording 1080p full HD videos, and a front-facing 5MP selfie shooter on the 7.7mm thin handset.

On the software side, the P8 Lite runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with Huawei’s own Emotion UI on top of it. While the Emotion UI is filled with features, there is little excuse for the company to release a handset in 2015 that still runs on KitKat.

The Chinese company will be selling the P8 Lite through its U.S. web store and Amazon for $249. If you don’t want to shell out $299 for the P8 Lite at one go, you will be glad to know that Huawei is offering financing options for three, six and 12 months. The handset will be coming with a two-year warranty and Huaweil will also be offering a localized repair service where P8 Lite owners will be able to ship the phone to the company for free.
