Nearly a year after Google announced Android Auto, the technology has finally made its way to a car that is available for purchase to consumers: the 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

While we have seen head units from Pioneer and Kenwood that are compatible with Android Auto, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata is the first car to feature built-in Android Auto support.

Like CarPlay from Apple, Android Auto runs directly on smartphone but displays everything on the display in the car. It provides users with quick access to Google Maps, Play Music, Voice Actions, Google Now and more without them requiring to take their eyes off the road or their hands off the steering wheel.

For now, Android Auto is only supported by Android devices running Android 5.0 or higher.

Existing owners of the 2015 edition Hyundai Sonata with Navigation can go to their local dealer to upgrade the built-in system in their cars. Hyundai will also make it possible for 2015 Sonata owners to install a software update to add Android Auto compatibility to their cars later this summer.
