Xiaomi Mi 4i

At an event in New Delhi, India, Xiaomi unveiled the successor to Mi 4 today — the Mi 4i. The handset has been made especially for the Indian market, and features a unibody plastic design.

Xiaomi’s Mi 4i weighs in at 130gms and comes with a waistline of 7.8mm that makes it 12 percent thinner and 13 percent lighter than its predecessor.

The front of the handset is adorned by a 5-inch 1080p screen that is laminated by Corning’s original Gorilla Glass. The IPS display has ultra-wide viewing angles, and features Sunlight Display that automatically adjusts the brightness in daylight to make the content on the screen viewable.

Under the hood, the Mi 4i comes with a 2nd generation Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB LPDDR RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Connectivity wise, the handset features Wi-Fi g/n/ac MIMO, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB OTG and dual-SIM with 4G support on both. Other specs of the handset include a 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens, a 13MP rear shooter with f/2.0 lens, which is aided by a dual-tone dual-LED flash. The handset is powered by a 3,120mAh battery with Quick Charge technology.

On the software side, the Mi 4i runs on MIUI 6 that is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The latest version of MIUI comes with some India-specific features like Visual IVR and more. It also supports six Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil.

The Mi 4i will be available first in India from April 30 for only Rs. 12,999 in five colors: black, white, orange, blue and pink. Registrations for the flash sale on Flipkart start from today at 8PM though.

For its price, the Mi 4i offers a staggering value for money, but the lack of a microSD card slot and only 16GB of internal storage might be a deal breaker for many.
