After months of delay, the Cyanogen team today finally started rolling out the Cyanogen OS 12 update for the OnePlus One. The update is based on Android 5.0 and brings with it a number of features and enhancements, including Google’s new Material Design.
All the features that Google introduced in Android 5.0 are all present in Cyanogen OS 12, though they have been further enhanced by the Cyanogen team. The OS now also provides granular controls over the theme engine thereby allowing users to theme individual apps. In addition, the theme store now supports free as well as paid themes so that users can support their favorite theme developers.
There is also a new email app in Cyanogen OS 12, which is powered by Boxer. Both companies had announced their partnership back in February that will see the premium version of Boxer being pre-loaded on all devices running Cyanogen OS 12. Some of the features provided by Boxer include Exchange support, multiple account integration, the ability to customize the LED notification, custom swipe actions and more.
After numerous delays, it is finally nice to see the OnePlus and Cyanogen Inc. team getting their act together and rolling out the Cyanogen OS 12 update for the One. Since the update is being rolled out via OTA, it will not show up immediately on your handset. The whole rollout will take nearly 2-3 weeks during which you will automatically receive the OTA update notification on your handset.
Despite what was previously reported and announced by Cyanogen Inc., the Cyanogen OS 12 update for the OnePlus One will also be rolled out in India.
