Cyanogen Inc. today announced that it has raised $80 million in Series C funding. The company will use this funding to hire more talented people and accelerate the growth of its OS.

It was only last month at MWC that Cyanogen Inc. revealed its new brand identity and logo, and announced a partnership with Qualcomm to supply Cyanogen OS for its selected reference devices.

India’s Premji Invest led the Series C financing round, while other investors included Twitter Ventures, Qualcomm Incorporated, Index Ventures, Rupert Murdoch and more. Microsoft, which was rumored to be interested in buying Cyanogen Inc. at one point, was missing from the list of investors though.

“We’re committed to creating an open computing platform that fundamentally empowers the entire mobile ecosystem from developers to hardware makers, and most importantly, consumers around the world,” said Kirt McMaster, CEO of Cyanogen Inc. “We’re excited to have the backing of an amazingly diverse group of strategic investors who are supporting us in building a truly open Android.”

The company, which was formed in December 2013, has received a total of $110 million in funding until now.
