OnePlus today announced that it is partnering with Waves to add MaxxAudio support to the OnePlus One with the next major update from CyanogenMod, which is slated to land in January. 

The MaxxAudio technology from Waves will be integrated into the Audio FX app in CyanogenMod “to deliver a truly amazing sound experience.” The technology has been custom tuned for the OnePlus One’s speakers and the company’s JBL E11+ earphones. Users will also be given access to 10 different equalizer presets for various genre of music, including jazz, heavy metal and hip hop.

OnePlus and CyanogenMod have been constantly adding new features to the One with regular software updates. Since the device has launched both companies have worked together to added many new features to the One through OTA updates, including ClearImage, RAW image capture support, Heads Up Notifications and more.

However, things have recently soured between the companies, with Cyanogen giving exclusive software distribution rights of its OS to Micromax in India. This means that OnePlus One users in India will not be receiving any software updates from Cyanogen, which has led OnePlus to work on its Android based ROM for the One.
