In June of 2014, Nokia launched the Z Launcher, a proprietary piece of software that aimed to guess which apps you may need at any given moment, into a small beta for a select number of devices. That has changed, finally.

On Tuesday, November 18, Nokia finally released the Z Launcher into the Google Play store, and made it available for a much wider selection of Android-based handsets. With the newly released app, it has also been updated to be faster, more stable, and also tweak the feature set to be more usable for those that download it.

What’s more, the Z Launcher now works on rooted devices, too, which should make plenty of people happy. Here’s the full breakdown of what’s new, from Nokia:

  • Faster – We looked at every possible area where we could make small speed improvements from optimizing on specific handsets to obscure things like “finger tracking latency”.
  • Better Prediction – Without getting too technical…we found ways to bring more context into our algorithm and to hone the algorithm data to just keep the important elements that give users the best results.
  • Refined Scribble – We improved the recognition and response time, (its faster!)
  • We now run on rooted devices! – This was the #1 most requested feature in our forum.
  • The release of the Z Launcher follows the new, Android-based N1 tablet that Nokia announced on the same date.

The app is available now, and it’s free. Just follow the link below if you want to check it out.
