There are some highly sketchy rumors floating around the internets right now that say Samsung is going to launch two new high end Galaxy S 4 units. One of them will use an Intel chip. The evidence to back that claim up? According to Engadget, Intel had the GS4 up on a slide during a presentation at Computex that was titled “New Mobile Devices”. Curiously, the ASUS Memo Pad is also on that slide, and ASUS themselves said it has a quad core ARM Cortex A7 chip. Maybe there will be a 3G model that uses Intel inside coming out later this year?
The even crazier rumor comes from the Dutch site TechTastic, which points to a Korean blog that says Samsung is working on a device called the SHV-E330 that uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800. It should be noted that Samsung devices that start with “SHV” are meant for Korea, so we could see this Snapdragon 800 based model never leave Samsung’s home country. Korea is actually one of the few countries where you can buy a GS4 using Samsung’s own Exynos 5 Octa, so maybe it makes sense to limit this new model to one territory.
Do I believe either of these rumors? Samsung is insane, and they’ll do anything just because they can. Samsung is also having serious issues making enough chips for their own devices, so they have to rely on third parties. Moving to an Intel platform or Qualcomm’s newest chip wouldn’t surprise me. I’m skeptical, but again, Samsung has a track record of not following any “normal” rules in this industry.
Update: Engadget just said the GS4 uses an Intel modem. That’s it.
Ugh, Intel keeps throwing names like Nokia and Samsung when talking abt mobile. Just confirmed that the S 4 is only using Intel's 3G modem.

So no, we're not expecting an Intel SoC-powered Galaxy S 4 any time soon.
