After making a comeback in the tablet market after three long years, HTC is all set to take over the high-end tablet market next year. At a local event in Taipei, HTC’s North Asia President Jack Tong revealed the company’s future plan regarding tablets.
He stated that the company is only going to focus on the high-end tablet market and will launch some new products in this category next year. As for the low-end tablet market ($150 and under), Tong said that “It’s not a profitable market.”
Tong further stated that there is a “bit more room for growth and product differentiation in the high-end and mid-tier tablet segments.” He was at the event to launch two new mid-range Desire handsets and the recently released Nexus 9 in Taipei.
Before the Nexus 9, HTC’s last tablet was the 7-inch Flyer which was a major failure. With the company’s smartphone marketshare slipping, HTC has been looking at ways to diversify as a company and re-entering the tablet market is one of them.
