According to the latest report from Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi is now the number three smartphone manufacturer in the world. It was only just a few months ago that reports indicated that Xiaomi broke into the top five smartphone maker in the world list.
Xiaomi is known for selling handsets with top-notch hardware at extremely tempting prices, which has made it a hit among consumers. While the company’s presence was largely limited to China until last year, it has expanded into many other neighboring Asian markets like India and Singapore this year. In India, the company has met with tremendous response and success, and manages to sell thousands of Redmi 1S units in a flash sale hosted every Tuesday on Flipkart.
In the third quarter of this year, Xiaomi shipped 18 million handsets, compared to a mere 5.2 million in the same period last year. Thanks to this growth, the company managed to capture 5.2% of the global smartphone market share, even though its presence outside of Asia is basically non-existent.
According to the report, Samsung remained the number one smartphone vendor in the previous quarter and shipped 79.2 million handsets with a market share of 24.7%. Apple came in a distant second by shipping 9.3 million units of the iPhone to capture a market share of 12%.
Xiaomi is looking to rapidly expand into other markets of the world, which should further boost its growth.
