Yesterday, Samsung silently released its new octa-core chip — the Exynos 7. Just like the previous octa-core processors from the company, the Exynos 7 Octa comprises of eight cores in two different power configuration to deliver the best of battery life and performance using ARM’s big.LITTLE implementation.
Unlike its previous chips though, the Exynos 7 Octa consists of 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 and A57 cores that are based on the 20m fabrication process. Samsung says that the Exynos 7 Octa provides a whopping 57% boost in performance compared to its predecessor — the Exynos 5 Octa.
On the GPU side, Samsung is using ARM’s latest Mali GPU — the T760 — which provides performance improvements of up to 74%.
Other key features of the Exynos 7 Octa include support for WQHD and WQXGA displays while consuming minimal power, H.265 HVEC codec support, UHD output support over MHL, dual ISPs with the ability to simultaneously capture images and video from the front and rear camera(s) and more.
Interestingly, the Exynos 7 Octa (Exynos 5433) can already be found inside the company’s latest flagship — the Galaxy Note 4.
