Unlike previous Nexus-branded smartphones, the Nexus 6 is not only the device with a huge display, but also the handset with the biggest launch ambitions.

While the Nexus name hasn’t always equalled the best carrier-focused launches in the past, Google is looking to alleviate that issue with the Nexus 6. Along with the announcement of the handset, Google has confirmed that the Nexus 6 will launch on all five of the major wireless networks in the United States. That means that not only will AT&T and T-Mobile see support, but so will Verizon and Sprint — and U.S. Cellular. The GSM-based carriers are not a huge surprise, but to see such a big focus on the CDMA networks is good news, especially those who might have considered carrier hopping to get the Nexus 6.

As far as launch dates go, that’s still up in the air. While AT&T has confirmed that they will be one of the first carriers to launch the handset, no dates have been finalized. Google is opening up pre-orders for the Nexus 6 through the Google Play Store beginning Friday, October 17, but that does not necessarily mean that pre-orders through the carriers will begin at the same time.
