Developer Edition devices are few and far between these days, but Motorola had a quiet success with their D.E. edition handsets that launched both on GSM networks, as well as for Verizon’s. Unfortunately that won’t be the case this time around, as a Motorola executive has confirmed the tinkerer-friendly option won’t be available this time around.

Motorola executive Punit Soni has confirmed, via a Google+ page, that there will not be a Developer Edition variant of the new Moto X. While this is pretty big news for those who love to dive into their devices, especially for those who don’t like to jump through any extra hoops right at the start, Soni did not divulge any details.

So, as it stands, there won’t be a Developer Edition of the new Moto X. Does that break a deal for a future purchase for you?
