Samsung today announced a new addition to its Galaxy Tab line-up of tablets, dubbed the Galaxy Tab Active. This is the first tablet from Samsung to feature an IP67 rating making it dust and water resistant.
The 8-inch tablet comes with a 1280 x 800 resolution display, a paltry 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, a microSD card slot and a 3.1MP camera at the rear. There is also a 1.2MP camera on the front and a tougher version of the S Pen, which Samsung is calling the C Pen.
According to Samsung, the 4450mAh on the tablet is enough to power it for nearly 10 hours. A side effect of the IP67 rating is that the Tab Active comes with physical navigation keys, which might not be appreciated by everyone.
The Galaxy Tab Active runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung’s TouchWiz and Knox security platform on top of it.
The Galaxy Tab Active will come with an optional LTE connectivity as well and will hit the shelves sometime towards the end of this year. The press release from Samsung also mentions that it will be bundling a protective case and a C Pen with the Tab Active.
