There are plenty of third-party launchers available for Android on the Play Store. Barring a few though, they are all the same and don’t really offer anything unique.
In comes Blur from Klinker Brothers (developers of Talon and EvolveSMS), a new launcher replacement app for Android with a unique “Pages” functionality.
Blur is based on the “page” idea of Google Now Launcher, except that it supports multiple pages, which can be used by any app. For example, users can setup a page for Talon and a simple swipe to the left from their primary home screen will bring them to it.
At the moment, only Talon and EvolveSMS have support for pages, but since the feature is open-source, other developers can add support for it in their apps as well.
Blur also includes features that are commonly found in other launchers including support for icon packs, gestures, different scroll animations and more. Below is the full feature-list of the app:
- Custom icon pack support
- Simple gesture support
- Dock toggle and options
- Icon scales
- Scroll effects
- Font options
- “Android L” style option
- Search bar toggle
- Grid size selection
- And many more!
- “Ok Google” hotword detection (4.4+)
- Unread counts (Experimental)
- Ability to edit icon names and select icons individually
- Move, delete, and create “All Apps” buttons
- Hide apps
- Lock the homescreen
- Adjust orientation
- Resize any widgets
- Unread counts (Android 4.3+)
Blur can be downloaded for free from the Play Store and does not feature any IAPs (In-App Purchases) to unlock any extra functionality, which is quite surprising for an app with such an insane level of polish.
