Japan Display, the barely one year old joint venture between Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi, is allegedly working on a 7 inch display that pushes an astonishing resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels (WQXGA). That’s 430 pixels per inch.

When will said panel end up in a retail product? Let’s think about this logically. Rumor has it that Google is going to announce a 1080p Nexus 7 successor at Google I/O next month. It’s probably going to take at least a year for them to want to increase the resolution yet again. There’s also the whole issue of finding a chip with a graphics processor powerful enough to drive that many dots.

Between this screen and Sharp’s 6.1 inch WQXGA panel that was demoed at CES earlier this year, my eyes can’t wait to see the future. The incredibly sharp and jaggy free future.
