The Korea Economic Daily, a newspaper that’s been around for almost half a century (1964), is reporting that both the Samsung Galaxy Note III and the LG G2 will ship with 3 GB of RAM. Why? Because LTE-Advanced devices need more RAM in order to stay zippy.

Now I know what you’re thinking, why not stick 4 GB of RAM in there? There are two problems. First, there’s a ridiculous RAM shortage taking place in the industry right now. Why do you think the GS4 Mini and the Galaxy Mega and several other recent Galaxy devices have just 1.5 GB of RAM instead of 2 GB? Second, ARM’s current architecture is 32 bit, meaning Samsung can’t support 4 GB of RAM even if they wanted to.

When will we find out if this newspaper is right or not? LG is going to hold a press event in New York City on August 7th. Many people, myself included, are assuming that’s when the G2 will be announced. Samsung on the other hand, they’ve historically announced the Note at IFA in Berlin. This year it kicks off on September 6th.
